I've visited the Uhuru Academy several times and the students are so advanced compared to their counterparts in public schools. The students at the Uhuru Academy not only have the will to learn, but they are actually intrigued and excited about their education. It's a fun, loving environment making it suitable for proper Afrikan Centered Education to take place.

The Uhuru Academy was founded in 2010 by Baba Amin and Mama Nkoyo Ojuok, becoming the first private Afrikan Centered school in Ft. Worth, TX. In the eight years we have been a full-time, K-12 academy, we have worked with hundreds of youth, graduated youth and adults, organized both local and national events/fundraisers, advocated for Afrikan Centered education on international platforms, and more.
Uhuru Academy students develop into advanced learners and focused scholars with a clear vision for the future. Our parents enjoy the empowerment of a true village, taking advantage of our "parental ownership" organizational model to volunteer, make suggestions, implement curriculum, and take a more active role in their child's education than ever before.
At the Uhuru Academy, we provide documented and quantified proof of the effectiveness of Afrikan Centered education. We have taken students that were designated "special needs" in public school and empowered them to work upwards of 2-3 levels above grade average.
Our aggressive and successful community fund-raising has allowed us to keep our tuition affordable for working families, and has allowed us, instead of pouring all resources in growing one program, to travel the country and assist families and community groups in developing and launching their own Afrikan centered schools and programs.
The Uhuru Academy is currently operating and/or consulting on multiple campuses, including Uhuru Academy Fort Worth, Uhuru Academy S. Carolina, Uhuru Academy Online Academy, and the Prince Circle of Legends Academy in Houston, TX.
In addition to our prep academies, The Uhuru Academy has made a powerful impact on the community through our adult education program, Operation Reconnect. Through Operation Reconnect, we have graduated over 60 youth and adults ages 16 and up in the past 5 years with a high school diploma. Our graduates have gone on to earn college degrees, obtain gainful employment, and embark on careers and/or business ventures they previously thought not possible.
Uhuru Academies are community schools that focus and thrive on community partnerships. Through our annual Community Kwanzaa, RBG Family Weekend, and Youth Entrepreneurship Expo fundraisers, we have been able to develop and cultivate powerful relationships with small black business owners from across the country. The continued support from these community partners not only help us keep our tuition affordable, but also allows business owners to become partners in developing the workforce and business owners of the future.
The Uhuru Academy is currently seeking community partners in the business sector that are willing to assist us in supplying scholarships to youth and adults that need our services. In exchange, we will grow your brand along with ours. Good businesses want to support and be associated with strong organizations that effect positive change in the community. The Uhuru Academy fits that bill.
My family & I are grateful for the Uhuru Academy & its staff! The brother Amin directs my child to his highest assets intellectually. There is an absolute challenge to his cognitive development. My sons confidence in his studies has improved tremendously compared to his activities within the public school system. Amin focuses on my sons growth as if he is the only student in class. He focuses on each student according to their level of learning. My family and I are in much appreciation to this organization. We look forward to continuing growing and development with the Uhuru Academy.
